Bordalás: "This is the way, and it is important to have good feelings and regain consistency"

Valencia CF coach gives post-match press conference after the draw with Real Sociedad

Valencia CF coach José Bordalás talked to the media about the draw 0-0 against Real Sociedad in a very hard-fought match, and gave his opinions on the result and the performance.

How do you rate the game against Real Sociedad?

Beyond the result, I take away the work done by the players. In front of us we had the most in-form team in the league, who until now were the leaders. They are a team with great offensive potential and a very high pace of play. I think we did a fantastic job defensively, we were able to keep a clean sheet and we had chances to win the game at the end. I want to congratulate the players, because they did a magnificent job.

You said that the team lacked authority. Have you learned to play that other style of football?

We are not talking about another style of football, but about being more consistent, about not making things easy for the opposition on a defensive level. We have conceded many goals -20- which is an outrageous number. That bleeding had to be stopped. Today, against a great side, we were able to keep a clean sheet -and in the second half they did not generate almost any scoring chances. That is our merit. Today Valencia CF had a fantastic team in front of us.

You commented a few days ago that Thierry Correia had gone to see an external doctor from the Valencia CF medical team. Is he the only case?

He is the only case and it was at the request of the player, who since he visited his country during the break went to see a trusted doctor. We have full confidence in the medical staff, and the relationship with them is magnificent.

The team set out their stall from the beginning and even had a chance of winning. How close was the victory?

We were left with the feeling of having even been able to win, as in the final moments the team went forward. There was a shot from Maxi Gómez, the last free kick by Carlos Soler...  the team decided to go for the points, but what we can take away is the hard work that we did. This is the path to follow. This is a very long season, but it is important to have these good feelings and to regain this consistency. This is the way forward. On an attacking level we needed to generate more, to have a little more tranquility, but with a team in front of us like Real Sociedad, who put pressure on you after they lose the ball, it was difficult to link up.

You don't look happy at all. Did you hope to achieve victory?

I'm happy with the work that the players did. I'm a coach who likes to win, and when I don't win I'm not entirely happy, but I'm happy with what the team have shown.

Did the incident with Yunus Musah in the 85th minute look like a penalty?
I can't comment on the move with Yunus yet, as I haven't been able to see it.
